Microsoft Corporation Windows 10 Mobile Surface Phone specs and release date rumors point towards Enterprise market

Microsoft’s Surface Phone has been intensively discussed in the rumor mill for the last couple of months while new info suggests that the smartphone could be launched primarily for the enterprise market.

The Redmond giant refreshed its Lumia and Surface line-up back in October, with the likes of the Lumia 950 and 950XL smartphone and phablet running on Windows 10 Mobile. The Surface Pro 4 is set to be the latest entry to the professional tablet market, while the company surprised users with its first laptop, the Surface Book, which has been positively received by the media so far.

In order to complete its mobile portfolio for the late 2015-2016 season -as far as flagship devices go at least-, the company is left with the Surface Phone, a device presumed to combine the power and the skillset of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book in a 5.5-inch handset.

As BidnessETC business news outlet has correctly pointed out, despite the plethora of the devices available and the release of Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft still struggles to secure a larger proportion of the global smartphone market. Hence, a noble move would be to enter the less competitive phone arena that are the smartphones aimed for professional users.

After the descent of the BlackBerry kingdom back in 2007 due to the inception of the iPhone, no significant business-orientated smartphones have been rolled out. Due to the lack of such devices, phablets have replaced them in a certain manner due to their large screens that would essentially result to enhanced productivity. Samsung’s Galaxy Note and Apple’s iPhone Plus series represent this gamut of smartphones, none of which come with an operating system that could fulfill the needs of a professional user though.

So it is fairly conclusive that Microsoft has a fair shot ahead, especially since its mobile OS tops in terms of productivity, which should be attributed to its desktop-basis as well. In addition, companies usually buy a substantial number of units for its employees, while they upgrade them on a more often pace than average consumers do so. Fundamentally, that would ensure that future generations of the purported Surface Phone line will be profitable to a certain extent.

The Surface Phone is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch QHD display, Intel Atom X3 Chipset, clubbed with 4GB of DDR5 RAM and offer two storage variants; 64GB and 128GB. Microsoft is expected to unveil the handset during the first quarter of 2016- some sources point to a quite early release sometime during February.
