Apple Inc. iPhone 7 specs and release date rumor says it will feature 3GB RAM

A new rumor has surfaced online suggesting that the iPhone 7, which will be announced in 2016, will come with 3GB of RAM, making it the iPhone with the biggest memory size in the line-up.

It hasn’t been two months since Cupertino took the stage to reveal the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus smartphones and rumors regarding the 2016 iPhone specs and hardware have already been hitting the web non-stop.

Earlier this week we reported that KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, believes that it is quite possible to see a smaller iPhone sometime during early next year. The particular handset could be the second installment of the 2013 iPhone 5C, which, in case you cannot recall, was a lower range variant of the iPhone 5S series. Another scenario surrounding the rumored device assumes that it could be an iPhone 7 Mini- essentially a 4-inch iPhone 7.

In the same list of expectations, the analyst mentioned the iPhone 7 itself as well, making a rather interesting remark regarding the smartphone’s potential RAM size. Kuo says that the iPhone 7 will be the one with the biggest memory in the series’ history; packing 3GB of RAM.

More specifically, he presumes that Apple will follow a strategy initially seen from Android rivals such as LG and HTC, since the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 RAM will be maintained to 2GB whereas the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 phablet will be sitting on the much-touted 3 gigs.

In addition to LG and HTC, the former followed the specific policy with its G3 2014 flagships, where the 16GB version came with 2GB and the 32GB one with 3GB. The company decided to launch one variant with this year’s G4- 32GB featuring 3GB of RAM.

Moreover, if this turns out to be true, the sole difference between Apple’s and LG’s RAM distinguishment, is that LG’s criteria were the internal storage capacity where Apple’s the display size.

Though, in Cupertino’s case, the two devices belong to two different screen form factors, hence they are targeting two separate consumer markets, so blowing off the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 with the 2GB RAM might create a negative impression to the respective customer base.

Furthermore, both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to be equipped with Apple’s next-generation mobile processor, the A10, and come pre-loaded with iOS 10. The two handsets will be most likely released in Apple’s early-autumn event in September.

Phones running Android need large amounts of power eating RAM because of Androids inefficient memory architecture and because of the use of large numbers of slow cores that increase the active set of pages.

It is unlikely that iPhones will need 3GB for years yet.

      Hello,

Android consuming a lot of memory is a fact. Apple’s iOS is more power-efficient though that doesn’t mean that a RAM upgrade would not improve overall performance.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
