Automobile sector of India must think of adopting different tech methods for zero and clean emissions mobility, a senior government administrator claimed to the media last week.
“We must think of different technological methods for zero emissions and clean mobility comprising the idea of swapping the battery as well as open infrastructure for charging,” Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, claimed to the media in an interview at the 57th SIAM Annual Convention 2017. Kant highlighted out that “innovation, research, and development” require to take place in the country for huge scale EV component manufacturing, production of battery, and charging infrastructure formation to encounter the disturbance of mass electric cars acceptance in the nation.
“The conservative regulatory rules in the automobile segment have been gradual and incremental so far,” Kant noted. “On the other hand, the latest moves such as 100% electric cars by 2030, leapfrogging to BS-VI emission norms, fuel efficiency, and methanol economy norms are transformational and will have primary effect on whole automotive bionetwork without any intermediary stage.” He also called upon the automobile market to suggest and formulate a general policy for promotion of electric cars.
As per Kant, low per capita vehicle ownership in the country will prove to be beneficial for mass acceptance of electric cars. Currently, India has 20 cars for every 1,000 citizens of low per capita vehicle ownership in contrast to 85 cars for every 1,000 citizens in China and 800 cars for every 1,000 citizens in the U.S. “Low per capita vehicle ownership that utilizes internal combustion engine offers India exclusive chance to chase a different model of growth in this segment,” Kant claimed.
“While other nations grapple to put back their large vehicle fleets fueled by internal combustion engines with electric cars, India might not be needed to do so.” On the other hand, he claimed that for huge scale adoption of electric cars and to make India a base for manufacturing of electric cars, confronts such as creation of charging infrastructure and indigenous battery production require to be met. Kant claimed that automotive segment of India played a vital role in the growth of the country.
