An image purported to be that of Apple iPad Pro 2 has emerged online which provides us with perhaps the first clear depiction of what the successor to the first gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be like.
The image which first appeared on AppleInsider carries the model number MHIC2CD/F. That apart, there is not much that the image reveals, except that it offers only 12 GB of storage space. That again points to the device being more of a prototype version of sorts with just about enough space to load the operating system along with a few apps for testing purposes.
While still on the OS, the leaked image does show the device running iOS 10. Apple is already touted to launch the next iteration of its mobile OS, iOS 10 around September along with a clutch of new hardware based on it. That includes the new iPhone 7 along with perhaps a refreshed iPad range as well.
So far as the iPad Pro is concerned, there is a little that we know about. Rumor mongers though would like us to believe the bigger iPad variant will go into production around September this year followed by a formal launch closer to the holiday season. Also, given that it has just been last September that Apple had first introduced the iPad Pro, there aren’t likely to be an extensive design change expected on jut the second iteration of it.
That said, Apple no doubt will go for a revised hardware setup with iPad Pro 2, which should include a better processor – likely to be the A10X processor, improved camera along with 3D Touch, True Tone display technology which first debuted on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
However, notwithstanding all the improvements that new iPad Pro 2 is set to incorporate, Apple might will have its task cut out given the increasing competition from the Windows 10 based two-in-one devices that are now being favored over their Android or iOS counterparts.
Microsoft’s very own Surface Pro 4 has been a huge success, enough for its OEM partners to offer similar devices at competitive price points. If that isn’t enough for Apple to be wary about with its new iPad Pro 2, the tablet market as exemplified by the iPad range so far has also taken a hit, with growth slowing down considerably.
Under the circumstances, it will be interesting to see how much of an impact, if at all, the new iPad Pro 2 will be able to make in the market.
