Xiaomi has announced that it will soon enter the US market with the launch of Mi Notebook Air, Mi Note 2, and other Redmi devices within the next few months. Although there is no official announcement regarding the expected date of the rollout, Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra disclosed to Bloomberg that the company is planning to enter the US markets soon. He also added that his company will make effective use of social media to promote its products similar to that of what they are doing in China and India. As of writing this, the only way for customers and fans based in the US to buy Xiaomi smartphones is to either depend on upon Amazon or GearBest. The direct entry of Xiaomi into the US means that customers will be able to buy the products directly from their exclusive online store.
Initially, Xiaomi is expected to sell smartphones and other devices through flash sales like they are doing in India and China. Meanwhile. Xiaomi has already started to sell Mi Band fitness trackers, power banks, and Mi headphones through Mi.com. Even though Xiaomi has listed few smartphones like Mi Max, Mi 5, Mi Note, Redmi 3S and others on its global website, customers will not be able to buy them.
Barra stated that the company is planning to organize a launch event in the US in October, where they will launch a wide range of new products. However, he declined to provide any further information about the details of the products.
According to a leading tech portal, the move by Xiaomi is to regain the lost market share. In China, Huawei occupied the top spot followed by Oppo and Vivo. However, the market share of Xiaomi declined to the fourth spot after the company was leading in the market in 2013 and 2014. In fact, the entire Chinese smartphone market is in decline. Hence, the arrival of Xiaomi in the US will help the company not only to earn good revenues but also to expand its business to wider markets.
