Digital assistant, which is also referred as a virtual assistant, is a program that can comprehend natural language and accomplish electronic tasks for the user. Recently, Google Alphabet Inc has declared the launch of its digital assistant to smartphones that operate on the most recent version of the Android operating system, thus greatly escalating its reach.
The Google Assistant was restricted only to the company owned products but now it is gradually growing to a wide array of devices. At present, it is launched only for the English speaker with phones functioning on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android 7.0 Nougat in the United States. It will also be subsequently made available for English speakers in Canada, The United Kingdom, & Australia and In Germany for the German speakers. The company is making efforts for support of more languages.
Voice-mechanized digital assistants have been mainly a unique idea for consumers and hence, several well-known companies are competing to make best services available to their users. And it won’t be wrong to say that this technology will be one of the extensively used methods to communicate with devices in the future.
Gummi Hafsteinsson, Product Lead, said, “Our basic motive behind this was to make Google Assistant accessible to the users at any place it is needed. With this new update, many Android users can now get access to the Assistant.”
However, the Assistant cannot become the default option on all devices in the Android system.
