TAIPEI, TAIWAN- AsusTek Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: ASUS) The computer giant agreed with Microsoft to offer the Office Suite app selection pre-installed with all of its Android devices.
Microsoft puts a lot of weight to making some profitable agreements with Chrome, Android and Linux device manufacturers, thus preventing numerous disputes over the years.
Now within the general frame of those agreements, Microsoft comes closer with another Taiwan tech giant company, Asus. With this agreement, all of Asus’s new devices powered by Google’s Android, will have the Microsoft Office apps preinstalled. Rumour has it that the American colossus already shares one more agreement with Asus but one that does not involve Android.
Nick Psyhogeos, president of Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLC, said:
“This agreement delivers significant value for both companies. Beyond ensuring continued improvements to our products, it opens the door to the kind of collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS made possible only through mutual respect and alignment on intellectual property.”
Of course, things were not always that productive between the two companies. As a matter of fact, in 2014 some rumours said that Asus had stopped manufacturing laptop-tablet hybrids due to Microsoft’s included feature to boot to Windows.
However, today seems to be ready to bring the two rivals together in order to create some groundbreaking innovations and highly compatible products and services. For now, both companies refuse to make any comments on the issue they had.
This is not the first time for Microsoft, as along with Samsung, the two companies were taken to the court for a patent dispute. Matters were finally settled in February 2015 and that was also the time that Samsung agreed to include Microsoft Office apps on its tablets that were being designed for May 2015, becoming one of the many Android vendors that agreed to include Microsoft’s productivity apps on their tablets. And again, both parties refused to make any comments here as well.
In general, it seems that Microsoft tries to establish a wide network for its services, taking advantage of the already major network that Google has been developing since the inception of Android.
