BlackBerry has launched its second Android smartphone – DTEK 50 which, unlike the Priv sports a much more decent price tag of $299.
With the DTEK 50, what you have is a 5.2-inch device that boasts of a scratch-resistant full HD display running Android Marshmallow. It comes powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor coupled to an Adreno 405 chip for superior graphics rendering. It will further be assisted by a 3 GB RAM and 16 GB of onboard storage though the latter can be extended to a huge 2 TB by way of microSD cards.
BlackBerry DTEK 50 Specs: Snapdragon 617, 3 GB RAM
The charge comes with a 2,610mAh battery which might leave some more to be desired. Fortunately, there is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 which helps to pick up charge soon enough. There will also be a 13 MP autofocusing camera at the rear while an 8 MP cam can be found on the front.
However, while the specs could sound familiar given that smartphone featuring a similar spec sheet is a dime a dozen, what still sets the DTEK 50 miles apart from the rest is its superior security setup. This not only makes the device safer from hacking attempts, but it also has native protection built into it to ensure enhanced privacy of the user.
BlackBerry DTEK 50 Features: Security first
The DTEK 50 comes with specialized software that keeps a tab on the OS and the apps at all time and is designed to warn users if it detects any abnormal activity. That includes the presence of any malicious programs that could be forcing the apps to perform tasks that they might not be intended to do.
BlackBerry also stated they will be extremely prompt in introducing security patches when needed to ensure the security of the device is never compromised at any moment during its lifetime. In fact, it is more on the core aspect of security that BlackBerry is banking on to makes its new DTEK appeal to prospective buyers that the hard-core specs that the device boasts of.
That sure makes for a sound strategy, more so on the backdrop of the huge fracas that had erupted between Apple and the FBI followed by the tech majors’ resolve to ensure better privacy of its users. While DTEK seems spot on that front, that it also sports a quite affordable price tag of $299 will further propel its prospects all the more. The Priv which came with a physical keyboard and happens to be BlackBerry’s first attempt at an Android smartphone had been priced a stratospheric $600.
