UK- Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. The Chinese tech giant has just rolled out its Android Wear smartwatch, the Huawei Watch, in the United Kingdom, so here is everything you need to know regarding its specs, price, availability and release date in the country.
After months of anticipation, Huawei has just launched its Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch smartwatch in the UK. The device was debuted during MWC 2015 in Barcelona, back in March, and ever since then the rumor mill was being flooded with info speculating the release date of the iPhone and Android friendly smartwatch in the United Kingdom.
So without any further ado, let’s take a closer look at the much-touted device.
Specs, software and design
The Huawei Watch sports a 1.4-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a 400 x 400-pixel resolution (~286 ppi pixel density), covered by Sapphire scratch and shatter proof glass. The device is also IP67 certified water resistant.
Underneath the hood, the smartwatch is powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8926 Snapdragon 400, housing four Cortex-A7 cores, each clocked at 1.2GHz, coupled with Adreno 305 GPU and 512MB of RAM. Internal storage capacity is 4GB, non-expandable.
The smartwatch does not feature any cameras.
In terms of connectivity, the Huawei Watch is fitted with Bluetooth v4.1, WiFi and a 3.5mm headphones import -which is also being used for charging-, while it also offers a selection of sensors; including Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Heart-rate monitor and Barometer.
Huawei has bumped a Non-removable Li-Ion 300 mAh battery into the watch, which lasts for approximately one and a half day, while charging takes merely 75 minutes.
The Huawei Watch comes with Google’s Android Wear straight out of the box and is compatible with Android devices and iPhones running on Android 4.3 Jellybean and iOS 8.2 or higher respectively.
Huawei’s Watch flaunts the industry’s most premium hardware currently in the market, as it is completely built by stainless steel, interchangeable straps and a crown placed at 2 o’clock. In addition to the design aesthetics, the watch comes with an always-on interface that essentially turns the device’s looks into the ones of a conventional wrist watch.
As far as dimensions go, the Huawei Watch measures at 42 x 42 x 11.3 mm (1.65 x 1.65 x 0.44 in). The smartwatch’s weight is yet to be revealed.
Pricing and availability in the UK
According to the company itself, the smartwatch went on sale in the UK on 4 November 2015 at 8pm- yesterday.
Until the end of November, the device will be exclusive to VMall UK, Google’s Play Store and Selfridges. More retailers are expected to place the gadget on their shelves by the first week of December, ahead of Christmas holidays.
When it comes to pricing, the Huawei Watch will start from £289 for the leather band edition, going all the way up to £599 for the most luxurious variant.
Moreover, Huawei offers a variety of strap bands to opt for; including stainless steel mesh, stainless steel links, rose gold, black-plated stainless steel links, or black or brown leather. And in case that the aforementioned do not belong to your likes, then have no worries, as the user can install an 18mm-wide strap of his choice.
